Mike qualified in Physiotherapy in 2007 where he went on to work both in the NHS and private settings gaining a broad range of experience in all core areas of Physiotherapy. In 2010 Mike then went on to specialise in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and attained an MSc from MMU in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2012. Mike then combined his Musculoskeletal role with a period of leading a Rheumatology Physiotherapy Team from 2012 to 2014. Following this Mike completed two specialist yearlong placements in both Lower Limb and Upper Limb Orthopaedics respectively, whilst alongside this achieving a Pg. Cert. in Lower Limb Trauma and Orthopaedics from Salford University in 2015.
Mike has a keen interest in ACL injury management and Lower Limb Rehabilitation having focused his MSc dissertation around accelerated rehabilitation protocols following ACL reconstructive surgery. Mike’s other interests centre around Sports & Exercise Medicine (SEM) which has lead him to develop an Athletic Screening package at Spire Manchester which is driven towards injury prevention, biomechanical analysis and athlete performance enhancement. Mike has also expanded his skill set into the field of Strength & Conditioning devising strength programme’s for both the public and high level athlete’s.
Mike provides Physiotherapy services to Manchester United Academy teams, working with elite athletes; Mike has developed a high level of expertise in pitch side intervention, sports injury management and sport specific rehabilitation. Mike also work’s with The Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) providing expert support and Physiotherapy services to its members. Working with the elite footballers has enhanced Mike’s scope of practice in the management of Foot and Ankle injury and with access to state of the art facilities in his role at Spire Perform he has seen vast improvements in the rehabilitation outcomes following Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle surgery.
Mike is currently utilising his role at Spire Manchester to take part in a national UK Full Randomised Controlled Trial of Arthroscopic Surgery for Hip Impingement versus best conventional (FASHION trial: studying hip impingement). He is the named Physiotherapist at the site delivering Personalised Hip Therapy (PHT) programmes in the study. Mike is committed to continued learning and development, he is a member of the Association of Foot and Ankle Physiotherapists (AFAP) and he regularly attends both national and international conferences focusing on advances in Lower Limb Rehabilitation.
At Spire Manchester Mike leads the successful Shockwave Therapy Service which now provides a solution for chronic injuries such as Plantar Fasciitis and Achilles Tendinopathy, combined with expert Foot and Ankle rehabilitation.
More recently Mike has accepted an invitation to join the Manchester Foot & Ankle Team and is committed to providing his elite Physiotherapy expertise and services to this exciting and innovative multidisciplinary team.
In his spare time Mike is committed to maintaining a high level of fitness and wellbeing enjoying Strength training, Running, Swimming and Sports Yoga.
